E3 Durham (E3D) is a SBA grant funded program designed to help underserved and under-connected entrepreneurs to equitably start, grow, and scale businesses. In order to effectively reach all entrepreneurs in the service region, a Hispanic outreach contractor is being sought out for translation and interpretation services.

 

OUTREACH DELIVERABLES

The following serves as a list of the specific responsibilities that will be undertaken by the contractor during this 11-month contract period (Jan X-Nov X). Total time is projected to be approximately 50 hours per month of services.

The goal of the contractor is to build trust within the Durham county Hispanic/Latino community enough to offer E3D as an authentic tool to help meet the needs of entrepreneurs and business owners within the Durham area.

  • Work collaboratively with ecosystem partners that have specific resources for the Hispanic Latino community to create a trusted pipeline.
  • Host Hispanic Latino think tank(s) or listening session(s).
  • Host at least one PUAP session in Spanish (or English) addressing key business needs/resources for the Hispanic Latino community. Attend Pull-Up at Provident events on the first Wednesday each month.
  • Include at least one Hispanic Latino serving ecosystem table at PUAP each quarter.
  • Translate program intake form into Spanish.
  • Walk interested entrepreneurs through the Spanish version of intake form both in community and at PUAP.
  • Attend monthly meetings for supporting Hispanic entrepreneurs with the City/County of Durham.
  • Visit/meet with Hispanic-owned businesses and business owners and share E3D material resources, as appropriate at least twice a week.
  • Create and put into practice a full circle impact loop with every interested Hispanic business owner regardless of if they enrolled in E3D or not.
  • Increase awareness and use of E3D resources by people of Hispanic/Latino descent.
  • 8 total outreach efforts documented per month.
  • 15-20 new contacts a month: awareness
  • Monthly follow up contacts with interested/enrolled clients.
  • At least 20 newly enrolled by November 2023: use of program

Anticipated work distribution

  • Translation services for intake and outreach materials created by the Forward Cities team - 3 hours/month
  • On the ground outreach to Hispanic/Latinx business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs - 15-20 hours/month
  • Interpretation services and outreach to potential Spanish speaking clients at the monthly Pull-Up at Provident event 5 hours/month
  • Direct counseling support for Spanish speaking clients - 15-20 hours/month
  • Coordination meetings with E3 Durham team - 5 hours/month

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be fully fluent in English and Spanish languages - verbal and written
  • Extensive experience in ecosystem work, entrepreneurship and business support, and community building/organizing
  • Experience with Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) is a plus
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years experience in business development, business coaching, and/or entrepreneurial support
  • Should be located in/near the Durham community
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the Durham small business community is a plus

Overview

The Forward Cities Marketing & Communications Coordinator is responsible for helping the organization maintain robust digital storytelling platforms that feature and celebrate our organization’s mission, brand, and community impact.

Areas of Responsibility

Graphic Design
  • Create graphic design collateral for print and digital media and to support partner outreach and fund development
  • Research, draft, and design stories and publications as needed (including an annual report)
  • Design graphics for social media and our website to support and promote our mission, activities, and events
  • Fulfill graphic design requests from Forward Cities team members, delivering quality results by the requested deadline
Marketing & Communications 
  • Work closely with the Senior Manager to implement a digital content marketing strategy that aligns with the organization’s established goals and strategies
  • Manage the organization’s overall social media presence by posting valuable, shareable content regularly, ensuring Forward Cities is positioned as field leader online with key audiences and stakeholders
  • Create and distribute Forward Cities E-Newsletter, ensuring uniformity and accuracy of content and messaging and compliance with all anti-spam laws
  • Keep distribution and audience lists, tags, segments, and groups accurate and up-to-date
  • Create and maintain a multimedia library for the organization that houses all assets including photos, videos, and graphics, and ensure each asset is properly tagged, searchable, and organized for ease of use internally
  • Support storytelling efforts for community engagement projects 
  • Track, compile, and create monthly metrics reports using e-newsletter, website, and social media analytics
  • Identify and resolve any problems that may arise with newsletter distribution, website functionality, or social media channel channels
  • Research industry best practices for social media to identify ways to reach and connect with our predefined target audiences
  • Ensure that all web and social media content adheres Forward Cities brand identity and standards
  • Track and fulfill organization-wide requests for web content (e.g. edits to existing pages, build Stories, etc) via our internal intake process
  • Repurpose content from programming, events, and relevant sources for different mediums including social media
Event Promotion & Support
  • Support, coordinate and promote events and the annual conference
  • Promote webinars and other convenings and events on all digital channels including post-event follow up communication
  • Provide onsite support and coordinate with vendors, guests, and speakers to ensure smooth and successful events and guest/speaker promotion
  • Coordinate all content (including multimedia) in the lead up to, during, and after events

Successful candidates will be proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud and Google Suite. Other systems we use (and for which some familiarity would be beneficial) include: monday.com (project management), Slack, Zoom, and Box.com.

 

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is $50,000 in addition to benefits including health insurance, 403b Plan matching, unlimited paid time off, paid holidays, and flexible/remote work culture.

This position reports to the Senior Manager of Marketing & Communications and preferred location is in Durham, NC.

Overview

Over the past several years,  a group of cross-sector stakeholders in Pittsburgh has worked with the national nonprofit organization Forward Cities to strengthen the region’s equitable entrepreneurial ecosystem.  A central strategy for this work, reinforced by a recent regional equitable economic recovery strategic planning process is the launch of a “guiding organization”.  

Tentatively named the Equitable Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Alliance (E3 Alliance) of Greater Pittsburgh, the organization will serve as the coordinating body for Pittsburgh’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and foster a culture of equity for every entrepreneur. The organization will lead and synchronize a diverse group of stakeholders in the development and implementation of an agreed upon set of strategies aligned with shared outcomes to ensure the long term sustainability of this work in the ecosystem. 

The E3 Alliance of Greater Pittsburgh is now looking for a Director to lead this effort.  

Description of Role:

As the leader of the E3 Alliance, the Director should be a social entrepreneur possessing a relevant professional experience with developing and delivering entrepreneurial support programming, as well as a familiarity with and a passion for fostering action-oriented collaborative networks within the Pittsburgh region.   

The position will be housed within Riverside Center for Innovation (RCI), and will report directly to RCI’s Executive Director and be supported by Forward Cities The Director will work closely with local partners and cross-sector stakeholders in Pittsburgh including entrepreneur support organizations, entrepreneurs, philanthropy, community leaders, local government, economic and community development organizations. The position is funded via philanthropic support from local foundations. 

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Serving as a connector in and between various groups of entrepreneur support organizations, entrepreneurial stakeholders, and local entrepreneurs; Supporting the local E3 (Equitable Entrepreneur Ecosystem) Network, a network of Pittsburgh based entrepreneur support organizations  by convening current members, identifying future members, and aligning them around a shared vision and strategy for Pittsburgh’s equitable entrepreneurial ecosystem; 
  • Convene cross-sector community and civic leaders across the city/region to help advance ongoing understanding and support for leveraging the assets and addressing the gaps of the city’s equitable entrepreneurial ecosystem 
  • Serving as lead project manager for all agreed upon deliverables including: engaging and coordinating local partners to support the research and evaluation, strategic planning, and implementation work; Identifying and amplifying important stories emerging from the work in partnership with local media partners; 
  • Building awareness of and support for the work among local and regional partners and stakeholders including fundraising to meet the budget needs of the E3 Alliance and increasing funding support for the broader ESO network;
  • Helping to develop and convene a Steering Committee of diverse stakeholders that acts as a governance advisory board for the E3 Alliance. Emerging lessons learned from the local work for sharing with the broader Forward Cities Community - and bringing promising practice information from the national field back to the Pittsburgh community;
  • Managing the organization’s budget and, once sufficient funds are raised, building the E3 Alliance’s team to manage the functional responsibilities of the organization and deepen/broaden the impact of the E3 Alliance and the broader ecosystem; and
  • Addressing additional needs through entrepreneurial thinking and opportunities as they arise consistent with the mission of advancing inclusive entrepreneurial supports locally and regionally.
  • Build and develop a team within the E3 Alliance as well with collaborative stakeholders partners.  
The ideal candidate is/has:
  • Local to or deeply familiar with the community;
  • Able to maintain and build trust in the community;
  • An experienced ecosystem builder engaged with the local innovation economy and its important contributors;
  • A strong and trusted facilitator - especially across diverse constituencies;
  • A well-organized project manager with demonstrated management experiences, attention to detail, and effective time management skills;
  • An entrepreneurial spirit with experience growing a new venture, and building a team;
  • Demonstrated budget management and fundraising experience;
  • A strong collaborator and strategic thinker; and
  • An ability to learn and model the values which promote vibrant, connected, and inclusive entrepreneurial communities. 
Professional & Academic Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of work experience - with at least 3 years of Director level and/or project management experience.  Relevant experience in entrepreneurship, ecosystem building, project management, and community facilitation
  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • And/or combination of relevant education and management/executive experience
Reporting Authority

The Director E3 Alliance of Pittsburgh will report directly to the Executive Director of Riverside Center for Innovation.,The E3 Alliance of Pittsburgh will be located within the RCI.  Workspace will be provided at RCI.  Work will include a combination of in-the-office, in-the-field, remote, and may include working with distributed teams.    

Professional Development Support: 

The Director E3 Alliance of Pittsburgh will receive support from the Forward Cities team, including access to shared learning, best practices, as well as:

  • Access to key cross-sector stakeholders and decision-makers within the city to help support the success of the work;
  • A robust network of peers, partners, and supporters locally, regionally, and nationally dedicated to the work of inclusive innovation and economic development in under-connected communities across the national Forward Cities network. 
Salary Range & Benefits

$65,000 - $75,000 depending on education and experience - includes full benefits (PTO, parental leave, group health plan/health insurance stipend, life insurance, telecommunication stipend, and 403(b) plan participation after 90 days with the organization).
