$75 Million to Boost Equitable Capital for Small Businesses


While it’s no secret that the financial system has long been tilted against minorities and women, less is known about how to level the playing field — even if you ask organizations that were created specifically to serve the underserved.

OBDC, based in Oakland, California, has 36 years and counting of experience serving African-American entrepreneurs. Twelve percent of OBDC’s lending overall in California goes to African-Americans. Last year, in Oakland alone, where the population is 28 percent African-American, 26 percent of its lending went to African-Americans.
